The Whigs are one of America's mainstream political parties, established in 1833. They were the original party of Abraham Lincoln and four other U.S.presidents. This party was revived in 2007 by Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans and quickly attracted thousands of new members. Modern Whigs are citizen-legislators with a deep respect for the vocation of public service who clearly distinguish themselves from other parties.
Some of the well known Whigs consisted of Daniel Webster, Willian Henry Harrison, Henry Clay, Zachary Taylor, Winfield Scott, and Abraham Lincoln.
What We Believe
The Modern Whigs are a pragmatic, common sense, centrist-oriented party where rational solutions trump ideology and integrity trumps. The core Whig philosophy relies on independent thinking, meritocracy, and integrity. The Whigs also promote a concrete platform that includes the following:
Fiscal Responsibility: Any action of the government must respect principles of fiscal responsibility and public accountability.
Energy Independence: Develop other methods of energy not having to depend on foreign energy sources.
Inward Looking Economic Focus: We have to focus on ourselves and our policies so that we can create jobs in America.
State's Responsibility: The state government is closer to the people so it is important that it is strong and follows the peoples' interests.
Social Acceptance: When the government makes laws, it must consider that every citizen is EQUAL!!
Education and Scientific Advancement: Increase public and private emphasis on math and science to compete in the global economy.
Veterans Affair: It is important that we take care of veterans and their families in all aspects of life.
Electoral and Government Reform: Support efforts and work for governmental reform that makes the American government efficient, fair, and responsive at all levels. Support efforts and work for electoral reform to allow all Americans to have their voices heard and make it rational for citizens to participate in the government and electoral processes.
The Modern Whig Party is not winning elections because in 1852 the party weakened tremendously when Henry Clay and Daniel Webster died. After this era and many to come, people seem to flock to one of the two dominant parties which are now the Republican and Democratic Party.
